International Ski Travel Market (ISTM) launches new b2b event for summer mountain travel:
ISTM Summer Edition, 2025

Thursday 8th August, 2024

The first ISTM Summer Edition will take place at AREA 47 in the Oetztal Valley from 15th – 17th June 2025 and will focus on the broad and rapidly developing sector of mountain travel, experiences and accommodation outside of the winter season,.

Event Director, Luke Boulton stated, ‘ISTM Summer Edition is in response to a developing need across the mountain travel industry. Growth in travel across mountain regions outside of the winter season has been a number of years in the making and we are now at a stage where there are significant questions regarding how this sector will progress and the part that b2b relationships have to play.’

The new event will take place with the partnership of AREA 47, Oetztal and Imst Tourism Boards. Margaretha Auer, Head of Sales and Booking at host venue, AREA 47 added, ’Strong B2B relationships are essential for developing summer tourism in the Alps. By collaborating, businesses can create attractive offers, optimize services, and enhance marketing efforts. These partnerships enable regions to provide diverse, high-quality experiences, attracting more visitors and boosting the local economy.’

Hosted Buyers for the event will have a broader profile to those of ISTM, with their emphasis ranging from organised experiences, spa and health, activities and sports together with accommodation, logistics and travel. It will be a mix of tour operators specialising in summer activities and travel to the mountains along with product managers from general tour operators who offers this as part of their programme.

Exhibitors will be accommodation providers, along with incoming operators and tourism boards offering and developing their product offer outside of purely the winter season.

The event itself is based on the successful ISTM model, however, with more of an experiential element. Buyers and suppliers will have pre-scheduled meetings in a similar way to ISTM, but there will also be the option for hosted buyers and exhibitors to take time together outside, participating in various levels of activity.

Commenting on ambitions for the event, Boulton added, ‘With all the questions surrounding how travel in and around the mountains will develop, ISTM Summer Edition will facilitate the relationships and discussions needed to answer those questions and move towards developing the sector in a sustainable way. What better way to do that than being in the inspiring surroundings that we are working with and using them to stimulate conversations and plans for the future. ’

Hosted Buyer Manager, Paulina Lund commented, ‘We are excited to be working with fantastic partners in Oetztal, who already have experience in hosting ISTM events and have proven to be forward looking, passionate and welcoming in their outlook. We are very much looking forward to welcoming the people who make the industry tick to AREA 47 in 2025.’
